Anago knife sharpness and wear testing helps Swiss Army Knives

Swiss knife manufacturer Wenger, famous for its Swiss Army Knives, timepieces, and its wide array of Kitchen and commercial knives, have begun objectively testing the sharpness and durability of their knives with the new fully automated Anago knife sharpness tester. As a part of their quality control processes Wenger wanted to be able to ensure its customers receive consistently sharp knives with a long edge life. For the purpose of testing edge sharpness and also edge life, Anago has developed an automated sharpness tester that is able to perform multiple sharpness and multiple wear tests without needing to stop between tests to increment and tension the test fabric.

The ability to perform multiple tests quickly and easily is important when measuring edge life as the blade edge is slowly worn down over a series of tests with an abrasive test fabric. Although it is possible to perform a wear test with the standard KST, the number of tests required and time taken to increment test media has created the need for a fully automated analyzer to be developed.

Using the Anago knife sharpness tester, Wenger is now able to determine the durability of different steel types, sharpening methods, and edge angles. They can now ensure that all of their blades achieve a high level of sharpness which can be benchmarked with the KST, and that the level of sharpness will be durable and long lasting.
